Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Jawa Barat

Watercolor on canvas
100 x 180 cm
2011

This is one of the paintings I made for my solo exhibition, Mamihlapinatapai, on Valentine Willie, Kuala Lumpur. “Mamihlapinatapai” is a word in the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego (South America) which originally means “a look shared by two people, each wishing that the other would initiate something that they both desire but which neither wants to initiate”.

I went to these places first time in my life, just for this solo exhibition. Monumen Perjuangan Rakyat Jawa Barat, a monument for the battle of people in West Java.
